HEAT-TREATED PALLETS
Joplin Waste Paper now offers heat-treated pallets in accordance with the standards and guidelines of the Missouri Forest Services Corporation. The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) passed an international treaty in March of 2002 requiring all wood packaging received by member countries to be heat-treated or fumigated prior to reception. The purpose of heat-treatment is to minimize the occurrence of insecticide pests associated with wood packaging material. Pine Nematodes (which are too small to see, but can piggyback on the Asian Long-Horned Beetle) and the Emerald Ash Borer are among other microscopic threats to foreign ecosystems. Compliance with ISPM-15 requires the wood packaging material to endure temperatures greater-than or equal to 132.8° Fahrenheit (or 56° Centigrade) for a period of 30 minutes. The pallets are then branded with the internationally recognized mark of quality: The IPPC Logo ![]() After the process is completed, the newly heat-treated pallets are not permitted to be placed within 10 feet of non-heat-treated pallets, to prevent any cross contamination. JWP has appointed a heat treatment supervisor, with the responsibility of inspecting our product for authenticity. Every certified pallet process is subject to inspection at random by the Missouri Forest Services Corporation staff or representatives of the American Lumber Standard Committee (ALSC) - Board of Review. All required information such as daily logs and detailed reports are preserved on our records. All information regarding our processes are readily available. |
